Within last few days, with no obvious 'other recent system changes' involved, I have become am unable to open an online browser 'search' through Moxilla for any new subject matter. I can type in the desired search item, but no action happens on pressing 'Search'. However, I can still open any existing 'bookmarked' site from within Mozilla.

Can't see any reason for this. Initially thought it might have been a McAffee problem, but tried the remedies reckomended by Mozilla for this, and seemed to make no change.

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
