Samsung galaxy 3 android. Downloaded firefox ap. Now every once in awhile the shortcuts I've added to the desktop of the tablet are reset so instead of seeing the text of the sites I've set, they all becone the generic firefox globe with no idea where each one will take me. I have to go back to each site and ask for it to be sent to my desktop AGAIN. Has happened three times in two months. Will not do it again but delete the firefox ap. Shame as we use firefox on 4 desktop computers and two laptops.

Hi lyndaler, Thank you for your question. I understand that on an android tablet, shortcuts created on the homepage do not have labels on them after a while.

I have added a url to my home screen on a device with 4.4 on it and the icon of the ico gets saved instead of a Firefox icon. On the device you are seeing this happen, can you please attach a screenshot?

Let us know if you need help with this, we are happy to help.

Aargh. I'm used to a windows os. I have figured out how to capture the tablet screenshot and save it to the tablet, but not how to attach it to this to send to you. I'll send this first and if the image doesn't come im stll trying to figure out how to get it to you. Have you an email addy I can use?

This is tricky. I found the user guide for this device: http://support.sprint.com/global/pdf/.../galaxy_tab_2_by_samsung_ug.pdf However it did not contain an option to change the name of the icon. However I did find this: http://www.galaxys4forums.net/forum/1.../976-howto-naming-internet-shortcuts.html It says you can use a third party software to edit the name of the icon.

Hello Again. Thanks for trying to problem solve.

The difficulty still is that when Firefox resets everything back to a generic globe, I have to go through everything all over again resetting the names of the shortcut.

So, yes, I see HOW to change the shortcut name, but I still have to go through each and every one of the several dozen shortcuts I have on the home page and redo them every time Firefox decides to do its thing.

I guess I'll have to dump Firefox and use a different ap. Wish it worked better. Maybe I'll try again in a year and see if it works better.

Thanks anyhow. Wish I knew what the problem was with Firefox. The other browser ap I've been using doesn't do that weird thing.

Android developer here.

As far as I understand this situation, this is nothing to do with Firefox — once those launcher icons are created, they're owned by Android. (In fact, they'll probably stick around even if you uninstall Firefox.)

Do you have Firefox installed on your SD card? That is, did you go to Settings, Apps, Firefox, and choose "Move to SD card"?

Ummm...no. Does it make a difference if an ap is installed on the original machine rather than on an external memory?

And nope, after I uninstalled Firefox I haven't seen any FF icons around.

And I'm afraid I can't 'do much' any more, as I've deleted the FF ap after the previous suggestion wasn't going to save me any time or effort.

Thanks anyhow.

Yes, it makes a difference if the app is installed on the SD card. Android will unmount the SD card when you take certain actions, like plugging your device into a computer. That causes problems, just like the one you reported; without any more information, it would be my best guess.

Thanks for your time.

Same Problem version 32.0 or version 32.0.1 you never know when it will happen . if they push an update overnight then the next morning your shortcut icons will all say :Firefox" ..... let the guessing begin ???? see screen shot attached

I filed Bug 1066111 to investigate.

Harveybit: what device are you using?

FYI, I dumped Firefox from the Samsung tablet and have substituted another internet program. It's pretty plainjane. But It works. It's stable.

So, since FF is off the tablet, I'll rarely check this thread.

If someone emails me to let me know the problem has been solved, I'll consider reloading Firefox.

Too bad. Love FF on my desktop/laptop machines.

I have the same problem on a Samsung Tablet that I have firefox installed on. My wife will tell me all the icons say firefox. I reset them and everything is fine for awhile and then the firefox globe is back.
