Two days ago, this adware showed up. I think I got it when I thought is was asked to download an update to Windows Video player. Anyway, it now is taking over my internet searches. Amazon, for example, now has unwanted pop up ads appearing on its site. Help.

hello ambbowers, this adware might come in the form of an malicious addon in firefox. please perform these steps:

  1. reset firefox (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
  2. afterwards go to the firefox menu New Fx Menu > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
  3. finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.

Thanks, Philipp, for your reply. I did at the above and it did not get rid of the malware. Whenever, for example, I try to log on the Amazon, the madware ads take over the page and scroll and ad banner on the bottom of the screen and a video box on the right. Trying to use other sites, I get bogus pop up adds telling me to reinstall my Windows Video player, or to update my browser. It is maddening and I'm ready to declare defeat and start with a new computer. Again, thanks, and if you have other ideas let me know. CRB
