My home computer (with synced accounts) works fine and shows me my saved passwords. I need to make this lockwise go away and restore to where I can see my saved logons. Firefox 70.0 (64-bit). My English is bad, but I try to write it. :) I have just do it, and restart Firefox in safe mode, on my work computer. But lockwise still appears. I need more information and help.

FireFox said in a popup that it was running slow and would I like to do a reset..... so I did. Then poof without so much as a by your leave all my usernames and passwords - including my FF account were gone.

And all I see is "No logins found" - This is NOT an improvement! Also, my FF preferences were changed, no more menu. And I have to spend valuable time trying to reset everything I need.

FireFox - way to follow Apple and Windows in taking over my world with out asking.

I am so upset, keep your 'improvements' to yourself. I am crippled without my loggins.

Are you kidding? It asked you if you wanted a reset and you clicked "Yes". You were the one that clicked that button, no one else. Also, re-enter your firefox account credentials and you will get back your passwords (if you had them synchronized)

Hi WaveCurrent, a Refresh is supposed to preserve your bookmarks and saved logins, so what you experienced definitely is not normal.

If you have the patience for some copy/pasting, here is an age old method to "roll back" a Refresh:

Because he said "reset" instead of "refresh" i thought firefox had the option fo fully reset itself, erasing everything. My bad.

Thank you jscher2000 - that is very helpful. And I have my passwords back, although I've spent much time resetting some of them just to come here :D for your help.

Kidding - No I'm not. No warning that this 'want to speed up FF' was a total start from scratch reset of the software. I would have passed.

Maybe you understood that my search engines, window settings and saved passwords were all about to disappear, but I did not. So save your snide remarks.

All that was mentioned was - running slow, do you want to speed FF up. I was led to believe the 'Reset' was just enhancing my FF speed, not removing my addons, option settings, window layout etc.

It would be nice for that little bit to be added to the popup. You know something like doing this will reset your entire FF install. Just to let people know what they are about to get into.

I notice I'm not the only posting for help, and in shock when their passwords are gone.

@WaveCurrent if you had firefox logged in to a firefox account, all of your passwords, bookmarks, etc, are stored online. I might be wrong and @jscher2000 can correct me if i am. You can just login to your FF account again and you will get most of your stuff back.

Chrome has pretty much the same thing. No warning there, either. Yes, a big warning pop-up in red letters would help.

Hi WaveCurrent, back in the day there was a two-line explanation in a popup of what would be removed, including settings and add-ons. Passwords wouldn't be listed because they aren't supposed to be removed.

Hi johnpendari, if you are running Firefox 70, the interface to your saved logins changed from a pop-up style to a full page style (Lockwise). The actual saved logins should be the same.

To switch back to the old interface:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste signon and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the signon.management.overrideURI preference to display a dialog where you can enter the desired value, delete the entire text, then click OK

Are your saved logins there?

Do you still have logins.json file in the profile folder that contains your logins if you check this file in a Firefox tab or text editor ?

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

You can also check for multiple profiles

If you lost personal data then it is possible that a new default-release profile folder has been created. See "Determine if Firefox has created a new profile":

You can open the about:profiles page via the location bar to check whether multiple profiles are present and what profile Firefox currently is using.

To anybody who might be interested :

You can have Lockwise and still be able to view/change/delete entries like you used to with the old passoword manager :

Type in the address bar :

chrome://passwordmgr/content/passwordManager.xul

Press Enter and maximixe the window.

When you highlight an entry you will see a "Show Password" button at the bottom.

Note that a few Firefox updates from now (probably Firefox version 73) this will change to :

"chrome://passwordmgr/content/passwordManager.xhtml"

Why doesn't lockwise import the old passwords? Why is the software forced on the user in a way that the old passwords are gone?

The signon.management.overrideURI trick replaces the manager but does not restore the passwords. So _NO_ thanks to the developer. How did this pass quality control?

When I have an old logins.json, how to combine with the new one?

An old logins.json file will only work if you have a matching key4.db file or a key3.db file if logins.json was created in an old Firefox version. It shouldn't make a difference whether you use Lockwise or the older legacy Password Manager. You can't merge logins from various logins.json files this way, you only get the logins from one logins.json file.
