AT&T, Verizon, BT use the Yahoo server.

The detail error message you posted is an error message from the Yahoo server. According to the Yahoo support forum, this error message used to be a real issue, but in recent months seems to be effecting quite a few people again. I also received that error message.

It appears to effect POP mail accounts and it is always the yahoo server.

In many cases, it resolves itself rather mysteriously. Some people find exiting and restarting works. I exited Thunderbird and logged on to the webmail account via a browser and emptied a load of emails from 'Spam' and 'Trash'. POP mail accounts do not have access to those server folders, hence using webmail. When I restarted Thunderbird, all hooked up ok and it's been fine since. Some people have found they have needed to clear all emails off server.
