Recently tried shifting from Firefox (FF) to Google Chrome (GC) but did not find GC to my liking. Since uninstalling GC and re-installing Firefox , I have been unable to get hyperlinks in Gmail to display properly. They display only partially underscored (only the first 10 or so characters), and consequently do not link properly.

There is usually a button bar with buttons to format text like Bold and Italic just above the text area where you compose and edit the message text.

That toolbar may also have a button to turn a text link into a clickable hyperlink (look for a chain like button).

You can select the link text and click that button to turn the link into a clickable hyperlink.

If you can't find the button then hover them all to check the tooltip of each (e.g. Insert hyperlink).

Rather than when composing an email message, the problem primarily occurs when viewing a post in an on-line forum, such as those hosted in Yahoo Groups. An example is shown in the attached screen capture of a link where only the first several characters of the link have the "blue" text underlined.
