I am having problems with the master password addressed elsewhere. However I am stuck with a master password I cannot remove until I send more details. Meanwhile, if I try to open Thunderbird, perhaps by mistake it requests the password. If I do not enter the master password Thunderbird will not shut down, and I have to use Task Manager to kill the process. If I try to close, it simply asks for the password and remains part open until I kill it.

Have you tried just pressing the escape key when asked for the password? That is the complaint I see most, that doing so simply removes the dialog and starts Thunderbird. Always made by folk that do not understand the purpose of having a primary password and expecting it to be more like a document password in Word.
