Most Imgur gifs will not show on page.
Within the past week or so, Imgur gifs will not appear in Firefox. The imgur link appears to have completely loaded but nothing shows. Gifs hosted on other sites (gycat, etc.) still work. I have tried several things: - Refreshing Firefox. - Start Firefox in safe mode. - Update and reinstall plugins (Java, Flash). - Update Firefox. - Clear cache and cookies. - about:config, set image.animation_mode value to 'normal' (already was there).
None of these work. Additionally, I know it is not my anti-spyware/firewall because the gifs will load instantly in Google Chrome. Image included shows screenshot of gif in Chrome (top) working properly and gif in Firefox (bottom) not working.
Any suggestions? I don't have any more ideas. Thanks.

Can you give a link to one of the problem pages?
Some site now convert animated GIFs into MP4 videos, sometimes called GIFV files. So if you can generally view GIFs with no problem, that might be the issue with the Imgur "GIFs" that you can't view.
And my follow-up question would be: could you use the YouTube test page to see whether you can play MP4 video in the YouTube HTML5 player? There are six boxes, and usually the first five are blue, last one red.
This gif will not play for me in Firefox. It is in fact a gifv. If I delete the v at the end in the address bar, the gif animates normally. However, this gif is a gifv that does show up. So I'm not sure what the difference is.
On the YouTube test page, my browser supports everything except H.264 and MSE & H.264. I looked around and found this could be an issue for Windows N editions, which I have. I tried downloading and installing the Windows Media Feature Pack, but it did not help.
I get an mp4 video for both, so it's strange that one works for you and one doesn't. I didn't check whether they both use H.264 encoding.
I think you have the newest feature pack so let's check two other things:
Extensions
Do you have any video recording/downloading extensions, or extensions that force Flash in place of HTML5? You can view, disable, and often remove or configure extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then review your list on the right side and consider whether anything video-related could be disabled or reconfigured.
Settings Check
Some video capabilities can be blocked by these settings:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.
Media Foundation: necessary to decode H.264/MP4 media
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste wmf and pause while the list is filtered
(3) If the media.wmf.enabled preference is bolded and "user set" to false, double-click it to restore the default value of true
Key H.264/MP4 Preferences
(4) In the search box above the list, clear existing contents and type or paste mp4 and pause while the list is filtered
(5) If the media.mediasource.mp4.enabled preference is bolded and "user set" to false, double-click it to restore the default value of true
(6) If the media.mp4.enabled preference is bolded and "user set" to false, double-click it to restore the default value of true
If you changed anything, please test again. If not, hmm...
The only extension I have is Adblock Plus. I tried running Firefox with extensions disabled and with turning Adblock off for that specfic gif; neither worked.
The media.wmf.enabled preference is set to true. The other two mp4 preferences are set to true.
I don't know what's going on. I guess the temporary solution is to delete the 'v' in the web address for gifs.
Thanks for trying to help jscher2000. If you have any more suggestions, I'd appreciate it. In the meantime, I'll keep trying things and update this thread if I find something that works.
