I closed and opened FF the other day and noticed a Red Banner about my Bookmarks and History. Sure enough, all my Bookmarks and History Were Gone!... Then, I closed FF and started it again, and my Bookmarks and History Are Back Again!

What happened? That's the first time ever since using FF from years ago I have seen this. I closed and started FF again, and so far, they are still there.

What did the banner say?

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.{web link} I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.

Maybe it was this message: Fix "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional" error message.

Why? Could have been a transient file lock problem.

I dunno... it was there and gone before I could read the whole thing.

The other day, I started to backup some of the most important data to a 4GB Flash (USB) Drive. For FireFox, I'm using the following:

C:\Users\Me\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

I would get some errors that 'so-n-so' Folder wouldn't copy. (The ones with a gazillion alphanumeric characters.) It said either the filename was too long or the folder didn't exist anymore.

I'll try to backup to a 250GB hard next, to see if it works ok there.

(Ok, in over eight years on this computer, and going back to the early 1990's... this is the first time I'm doing a hard drive backup. Grin. I'll still have to pick-n-choose, as my computer's drive is 1TB and I only have this 250GB drive.

I need to decide what I'll do by next Jan, as MicroSoft will stop sending Updates for Win-7. I could pay 'em $50 to have WIn-7 for another year or bite the bullet and go to Win-8.1 or 10.)
