I use Thunderbird in dark mode. It generally works well, but when I reply to an email, the original text at the bottom of the message shows up in a dark font against a dark background, so it's unreadable.

Someone reported this in 2019 and someone else in 2021. Both were archived without response -- I hope I'll have better luck!

There is a reason those emails got no response. There is nothing anyone can do to stop others setting the font colour they send mail in to Black. Likewise at time there is a rash of folk setting the font to white becuase they use dark modes. This is particularly popular with Microsoft Outlook users.

Try holding the shift key while Pressing reply or forward. This will force the reply to plain text mode and leave all the pretty stuff, including font colour behind.
