Thunderbird version 31.3.0 mail server is hosted by NameSecure

I have been using Thunderbird for many years. Yesterday I changed my email password on the server and can no longer connect with Thunderbird.

I did go into Thunderbird's password store and delete the lines for my server. Then when I started Thunderbird, it read in the status bar "Checking mail server capabilities..." and never got beyond that.

In frustration, I finally resorted to removing the account and starting over. No dice creating a new account. After it gets the configuration settings from my server and I click done, it says, "Configuration could not be verified--is the username or password wrong." No it is not wrong, I have retyped it multiple times and tried changing the username to my full email address. It will not accept it UNLESS I go to manual and change SSL to None and authentication to "normal password" and this is not acceptable.

I then downloaded Postbox and have it running side by side with Thunderbird. Postbox has no problem at all connecting to my server and using the proper settings.

yeah old version of postbox new version of Thunderbird. Anti virus it's usual unpredictable and useless self.

You delete the password and Thunderbird never gets to ask if you would like to enter a new one. Classic anti virus program screwing up mail symptom. In the case of Nortons they often continue to use the old one from their vault to mess with your head.

So check the firewall component of your anti virus and make sure Thunderbird has internet access. (The fact it can not verify account settings indicates it may not) disable email scanning completely and try again.

Thanks Matt, but no cigar. I am running Norton and at your suggestion went in and disabled everything to do with internet and email. Same behavior. Username or password invalid. I am running the latest versions of both Postbox and Thunderbird and Thunderbird does have internet access because it gets my gmail just fine and even works with my namesecure account if I have connection security set to "none"

Thunderbird even works on my other computer, which is at a different location. I'm not sure what versions I have on it, but I would assume the latest also since it always checks for updates.
