Hi:

I am using the Safari browser on my Mac. Suddenly when I wanted to login into the Firefox account I got the 500 Error message that I pasted in the Subject. I am a new user of Firefox, just switched from Safari and I am not computer savvy...

I cannot login, I cannot create another account...

I hope I do not have to go back to Safari.... I have no idea what might cause this problem and what to do. I hope that somebody has the answer. Thanks in advance.

Soluzione scelta

I resolved this problem. It took a lot of reading for a novice, but now I don't have to use Safari to access the Firefox support site, which was kind of ridiculous.

When I got the 500 error when trying to login into https://support.mozilla.org, the Shield for the website displayed https://accounts.firefox.com as the cookie that it was saving (or trying to save).

After I added https://accounts.firefox.com to the list of exceptions as Allowed for the session, I was able to login to this support website.

Lessons learned for anyone getting this error: use the Shield as a guide for what might have to be entered as an exception, if you setup your security options for Block everything.

Feedback for the developers: the error message should be more meaningful, something to enable a user to act upon it instead of being misled, thinking that a developer is getting information and the problem will be fixed....

This thread had some other questions that remained unanswered, repeated below: - If one adds a website under exceptions as ALLOW, are ALL blocks removed (for all types of cookies, tracking, fingerprints, etc.)? What does adding a website under Manage Exceptions imply? - If I added support.mozilla.org to the Exceptions list as Allowed, does this allow support.mozilla.org to accept 3rd party cookies? - results of the Storage Inspector where the parameter that should indicate blockage (that I set for ALL cookies in all windows) indicates that all cookies are allowed.

If anyone has answers to these questions and understands how Firefox exception list works, please let me know.

Thanks for trying to help.

Thanks, helpful link. However, it doesn't address my 2 questions about result of setting Allow or Allow for session under Exceptions when ALL cookies are blocked (see my prior post)?

Do you know the answers to them?

Allow: Will always allow

Allow for session: Allow only until the browser is closed

Thanks, I understood this much. Probably I didn't ask my questions clearly.

Assume that I blocked ALL cookies, tracking content, cryptominers, fingerprinters in all windows.

If I set in Exceptions to ALLOW for a website, is EVERYTHING allowed, beyond just cookies: Social media trackers, 3rd party cookies, all other tracking, fingerprinters, crytominers, etc.  ????

When one defines Exceptions, the screen has a title stating: "Exceptions - Cookies and Site Data"

What exactly does "Site Data" mean in this context?

I can't say for sure. However, ad blockers would block many such problems.

Thanks for getting back to me. I hope someone else might know.

I am not using add blockers and I am trying to stay away of additional components which can sometimes cause more problems than one needs.
