When composing an email, it wraps at around 45 to 50 characters, and my emails are like a tall narrow column. How can I change it back? I did get into Config, but it was already set to 72. Thank you! Barry

How can I make an email line length longer when composing before it automatically wraps?

If the preference mailnews.wraplength is set to 0, plain text messages wrap to the window width. If that isn't obeyed in normal mode, see if there's a difference in safe/troubleshoot mode (hold Shift when launching TB).

Okay, will check into this. Thank you! Barry

I first closed the program. Then I tried it again and set the wraplength to 0, but it still does the same thing, and auto wraps at about 45 characters. So I closed the program and reopened it.

I tried it again, and opened TBird while holding down the shift key, and tested writing a message again, but same problem; it wraps at about 45 characters.

I noticed that the setting had returned to 72, so I reset it again to zero, and then entered it. Which caused it to stay at zero; I think I did not lock it in before. I thought just putting in a new number was all that was necessary. But not true.

Now, after starting with shift key down, it stopped autowrapping. So I closed the program and opened it again without holding down the shift key, and it still stopped autowrapping. So it is reset to no autowrapping, I just need to do it manually now.

Is there a way I can get it back to its default? So it autowraps as it gets close to the end of the page?

Thank you. Barry

Also, I reset the figure from zero to 72, and tried composing, but it went back to autowrapping at around 45 characters. I was hoping it would go back the the default, but it did not. So I reset the 72 to zero, and it stopped autowrapping again. At least I find it better this way.

Any suggestions to get it back to the default?

Thanks again,

Barry

Make sure during your tests that you are composing in plain text format. If html is the default format, hold Shift while clicking Write or Reply to change to plain text.

HTML composition should wrap to the window width by default, no matter the value of mailnews.wraplength.

If wrapping doesn't work properly even in safe mode, I can't point to any other source of the problem. Testing in a new profile might be worthwhile; Help/More Troubleshooting, about:profiles, to create and manage profiles.
