Hello,

You can turn off tiles by clicking on the icon on the top right of the page (should be in the shape of a gear, although in previous versions it might be a 3x3 square).

Alternatively, you can change the new tab page to a blank page (or a page of your choice) by modifying your Firefox configuration:

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
  3. Enter browser.newtab.url in the search box, and double click on the row this value is on right click on the row and select Modify
  4. Change the value to about:blank or a site of your choice

I don't have a gear or a 3x3 square. The other solution does not let me confirm that the tiles are disabled and that data collection has stopped.

With respect to data collection, the tiles show the pages you have recently/frequently visited, including (usually) a thumbnail image of your last visit to the page.

If you want to stop Firefox from capturing the thumbnail images of pages, see: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1030424#answer-651839

If you don't want Firefox displaying history-based information, you could clear history now and then, or consider using private browsing. See:

Note: We are replying in relation to Firefox's built-in new tab page, but some add-ons replace the page with their own "speed dial" or search/popular sites page. If you are not sure which one you're viewing, you could attach a screen shot to a reply (make sure to blur or delete anything confidential).

How about providing a screenshot of the "tiles" that you are talking about?

It is best to use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed a maximum file size of 1 MB.
Then use the Browse .... button below the Post a Reply text box to upload the screenshot.

The about:newtab page is the page that shows the tiles. SeeCustomize your Firefox New Tab page for more information.

The search bar is the bar at the top of the about:newtab page which uses your search engine defined by the bar to the right of your address bar.

If you are still having trouble, please post a screenshot as mentioned earlier by jscher2000. Please see How do I create a screenshot of my problem?. As mentioned earlier: make sure to blur or delete anything confidential.

Once you've done this, attach the saved screenshot file to your forum post by clicking the Browse... button below the Post your reply box.
