Why does Firefox Developer Edition keep crashing? Deleted it and installed again but that didn't help.

For two days now, anytime I try to open Firefox Developer Edition it crashes and a window pops up and supposedly sends a crash report but I have heard nothing from Mozilla and Firefox continues to CRASH. I uninstalled, tried your solution and then downloaded the newest version of Firefox but that did nothing to solve the problem.

hello, could you provide your latest few submitted crash reports? please enter about:crashes into the location bar, copy the latest few report ids from there starting with bp- & paste them here into a forum reply. this will give us a better understanding what may be triggering those crashes.

The Aurora now known as Developer channel are not stable builds as both Aurora and Nightly development channels get checkins almost everyday so therefore the get a update each of those days. Sometimes a checkin(s) can cause crashing, instability or such until either it fixed or backed out.

You can try to disable OMTC and leave hardware acceleration in Firefox enabled.

  • about:config page: layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

Hi, thank you but I can't open it, always keep crashing at start-up :(

thanks, the issue is certainly lookig like it's related to graphics (and it's currently spiking in pre-release channels, so firefox developers are already looking into it).

one thing you could try on your end is to update you graphics driver (this should be the right link for your system: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=22165 in case this doesn't solve the issue or does not apply to your system, start firefox into safemode by pressing the shift key while the application is launching & disable hardware acceleration in the firefox menu ≡ > options > advanced > general (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

Are all these reports from the same program?

Release Channel = aurora

Release Channel = release

more options

Fred there is no such aurora Release channel. There are four main development channels. Release, Beta, Aurora and Nightly.

That is what I saw on one of the reports.
