Firefox Sync has rolled back after a mysterious Win8.1 "non-system-restore" by ~1 month; lost addons and bookmarks from that period.

Pretty messy/weird situation here. I woke up this morning to find that my Win8.1 had rolled back to a state about 1 month old including my Firefox Sync state. Bookmarks seemed to be up to date but not the series of add-ons. I clicked the Sync button hoping it would refresh things to the latest state saved to my email address only last night, but it churned through and then my bookmarks were missing the last 1 months. I'm having issues with WIn8.1, too, in that the Event Viewer shows no system restore (and won't allow me to even open system restore) and Event Viewer shows half a dozen updates to apps I never user as the only activity that happened overnight. Any ideas about wtf happened here and how to remediate?
