With tar.bz2 version of Firefox 40, file defaults/pref/local-settings.js doesn't seem to work! Its OK with .deb version installed with apt-get, but with tar.bz2 version on Unbuntu and on Redhat, local-settings.js doesn't seem to work!

It was not really the problem. I had non ascii caracters in the config files (in comments), and before version 40 it was working well. I just delete the non ascii cars and now its OK. Thank you
