It has been suggested, FireFox can be launched, from the icon, by inserting -private at the end of the string (a la IEx). However, the purple mask does not appear. Does this mean browser is NOT in privacy mode? Is the -private tag invalid? Can FireFox be launched in privacy mode?

Hello Micke_D, when insert -private at the end of the string means that firefox start in permanent Private Browsing mode, if Firefox is in permanent Private Browsing mode (Never remember history, in Options > Privacy) then the purple mask does not appear because all windows open automatically in private browsing mode.

thank you

EDIT a day later : we update the kb article with the above info, please see : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/private-browsing-use-firefox-without-history#w_can-i-set-firefox-to-always-use-private-browsing
