I use private email accounts and corporate email accounts in the same thunderbird configuration.

Now, when I reply to a unknown email address, independently of this address, it is saved in the same addressbook (corporate and private). That is a mess. Making loosing time at the end of week arranging my addressbooks.

Is there any way of telling thunderbird which addressbook to use for every email address configured?

Sorry for my English, it is not my mother language.

Thanks in advance for your answers / suggestions.

When you reply to an unknown (not in any address book) address, the address is, by default, added to the Collected Addresses address book. This feature can be disabled, or you can specify an address book other than Collected Addresses as the target address book.

What may be more useful is to specify which address books are searched when the address autocomplete function is invoked as you start typing in the To: box of a new message. So, e.g., when you send from your corporate account, only contacts in your 'corporate' address book appear as suggestions for the To: recipient. This option is available with the MoreFunctionsForAddressBook add-on (how to install).

The "main problem" is that I can specify only one target address book for every e-mail addresses. It seems that there's no actual solution to my "special" need.

This is useful once the addresses are ordered. I didn't know it and I'm going to use it. Seems useful.

Thank you again for your answer.

If you switch off the auto collection of outgoing email address and download/install the 'MorefunctionsforAddressBook' addon extension, you can choose where to add each sent email address.

select 'Sent' folder select email to read in Message Pane click on the TO email address to see drop down of options. select: 'save recipient addresses' > 'as contacts(all)' a small window opens. Choose the desired address book click on OK

the email address will now have yellow star against it to say it is stored in one of your address books. If you want o immediately check details: click on the TO email address and select 'Edit Contact' If you need to go to Edit Contact properties to complete more fields click on 'Edit Details' button.

Not as quick as auto adding to eg: 'Collected Addresses But it does allow you to add specific sent email addresses to whatever address book you like much quicker than manually adding to address book.
