Hi,

I can't login to sync at all. Every time I try to login it says ( unexpected error ). I had created a new sync account using my new email. Any help is much appreciated.

Hi George, sorry to say this is a problem on the back end: there is a problem with Firefox Account login at the moment for most or all Sync users.

You might want to try again tomorrow using your original account. Hopefully it will be back to normal by then.

Here's the status page for Mozilla services, indicating they are looking into login problems (as of a few hours ago): https://status.services.mozilla.com/

Ah ok. I thought it was my end. No stress I can try tomorrow. I have another question though.

If I set-up Firefox and bookmark my favourite sites and and install extensions, will sync automatically add those to my account when I log back in?

Cheers

Is this the first computer on which you set up (or started to set up) Sync? In that case, I think everything will be fine.

If you had set up Sync on a different computer first, I'm not sure exactly how it will all get merged together after all your Firefoxes get back online. Hopefully someone more familiar with Sync knows what happens in that case.

Yes it is as I recently changed emails and deleted my sync account and created a new one with my new email. I will have to wait and see what happens :)

You are not alone but this is absolutely NOT A NEW PROBLEM. I have NEVER been able to sync---to the best of my recolletion. I tried off and on, time and again over the last one year or longer. I also created a new password and so on. Nothing works , at all, ever. I had resigned to the idea that this was somehow my problem, that it was fault with my computer(s) and so on. It seems that it is clearly not. This problem needs to be elevated: one of the much -vaunted features or Promised Features of FF is this sync ability. You know:" sync all your devices, laptops, desktop, mobile!!! Sync your whole bloody life!!! Get With It!!! Be a member of the 'in' crowd!" Bunk. This is sadly typical of the 'app generation' (including the add-ons) proclamations for the Brave New Digital World: much too often ,more hype than help.

If you cannot perform----don't promise. Stop wasting our lives with a lot of hoopla.

Hi MikeZgb2012, I notice you posted a sort of complicated question last month that didn't get a response:

https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1112730

Since this thread most likely was dealing with a server outage rather than an account or configuration issue, it probably makes more sense to continue the discussion in your thread.

Thanks to each of you for your intelligent replies and thoughtul comments. I regret that I have not earlier replied on some of these. My excuse is merely lack of time, energy and patience when so many of these problems arise and each requires its own bit of search, research change this, do that and so on. It seldom seems to be that we can 'do one and be done'. And it seems that so often, one thing leads to another and so on but the solution remains elusive.

The time, energy and attention consumed by this process becomes burdensome and leads to both emotional exhaustion and a jaded attitude about any 'new and latest' thing or app or offering from FF: "Oh, yeah. So what will be wrong with this one? How much time will I need to find the fixes and so on. What errors will I make along the way which only exacerbate the problem?' This is a tragic outcome.

It is also quite correct to observe that many of these issues may arise from server and other sorts of connectivcity/continuity issues but the judgment of a well-seasoned 'expert' is needed to even notice that.
