Laptop running Windows 10 insider version 14942 and Thunderbird 45.3 with no problem, I have used Thunderbird for years and love it! Clicking "about" tries to download 45.4 update but fails, says download full version which opens in browser. This fails wilt message File is corrupt. Desktop running Windows 10 public release version downloads the update with no problem.

might be an anti virus program. They corrupt files in transit sometimes when they try and scan them.

Thanks for your reply Matt, I run Bitdefender internet security 2016 on both computers but only the laptop on the insider version has this problem. I have tried switching off antivirus and Windows SmartScreen but the problem persists.

Try this: Start computer in 'Safe Mode with Networking'. Download from here choosing preferred language and Windows OS.

Uninstall Thunderbird via 'Control Panel' > 'Programs and Features'. then run the one you downloaded to install it.

Then restart computer in normal mode.

Make sure Firewall allows Thunderbird.
