I have an iPad mini 4. Whenever I load a news site it loads the desktop version, which is too small to read. I change this to the desktop version, it loads the desktop version again. I ‘request’ the mobile version, it still reloads the desktop version. This is driving me crazy! Does anyone know how to force Firefox to load the mobile version of a website?

Hi Graem, Could you please provide an address for us to test your issue? What is most likely happening is that the site does not provide a mobile version of their site.

Hi Chris Try news.com.au, or abc.net.au. Both of these have mobile and desktop sites. Or bbc.co.uk. Let me know how you go. Cheers Graeme

news.com.au does have a mobile version of the site, but when I switch the desktop view, the setting is kept, so try clearing stored data for that site.

  1. Tap the menu button at the bottom of the screen:
    menu button ios 10
  2. Select Settings
  3. Open Data Management.
  4. Tap Clear Private Data.

No, that made no difference at all. For comparison, search for “Desktop Browser” in the App Store. This simple little browser does exactly what I want (and what is asked of it) so why can’t an otherwise great browser like Firefox do this. (See attached screenshots) (sorry, this website will only allow small images to be uploaded and doesn’t offer image compresssion, so only one image attached)

Let's try specifying website data. Go to Settings > Data Management > Website Data, then tap Clear All Website Data.

Hi Chris,

No, no change. Still only loads the desktop site. Same with abc.net.au and bbc.co.uk

Let's try something simple like force-quitting the app.

  1. Double-tap the home button to bring up the application switcher.
  2. Scroll to the Firefox app.
  3. Swipe up the Firefox app.
