Linking or associating two emails in Thunderbird

more options

I have been using Tbird for years and generally love it but there is one functionality that appears to be missing or it would probab;ly be more accurate to say I can't find a way to achieve it.

I am membership secretary for a club which encourages online membership applications and renewals. For each renewal, I receive two emails to the club account. One is a payment notification from Paypal, the other is an application form completed online through a form filling application. The application form is completely encrypted so I can't even see the name of the applicant until it has been run through the form website.

My requirement is to link each pair of emails in some way so that I can easily see whether an applicant has both completed the application form and paid. This could be either a link between the two emails or a means of putting a note with the applicants name on the email (e.g. an editable field in the email listing.

The best I've been able to achieve so far is to forward the encrypted email to myself with the applicants name appended to the subject but that disguises the time/date fields on the listing and in any case is a PITA to achieve.

Does anyone know of an add on that will achieve either of the above or of another way to achieve the requirement that I haven't thought of.
