Major issues with Wordpress functionality

Hello,

Since the new update(s) I'm having major issues with the settings of my Wordpress website. It seems I'm not the only one having problems adding a user in Wordpress - which is impossible in FF, it only works in Chrome. https://wordpress.org/support/topic/cant-set-password-for-new-users/

But now my major problem is that the changes I make (see screenshot) are not saved in FF. So when I log out of WP and FF, then start again and login to FF and WP, the changes I've made are not shown, in other words, the old situation is back.

I disabled ALL of my add-ons, that seemed to work for a short time, but as soon as I was testing the add-ons, to find out which add-on was corrupted, I now have the same problem again, and all the add-ons are OFF.

So I'm stuck here, and find the errors I see in Wordpress bizar it can be caused by FF.

I'm using the latest version of FF, which is a beta which I don't like, but as soon as I try to downgrade, I am getting page crashes all the time.

Am I the only one having this issue?

I need some help please!

My sister name is Yolanda.  ;-)) So going back to the previous version crashes? Can you try another account on the computer with the previous version(do not sign into your firefox account) to see if it makes a difference? Here is a link to the previous version, just pick the language and download. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/91.0/win64/

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

@Cor, thanks for the tip!

@Jon, thank you for your idea to create a new user. I've done that, and with a complete new FF install, the problem was fixed - which means the settings I've changed in Wordpress where still visual after logging out and in. So that was good news and I was very happy, so....

On my own account I've de-installed FF (with an uninstall tool), downloaded it again and started all over, creating the same situation as on the new account. I did not log in to my sync account to make sure it was a stand alone version.

But after doing the test on Wordpress with the add-ons testing one by one, the problem in Wordpress occured again. Even if I de-installed an add-on that I thought was the problem. So, I've deleted ALL add-ons again, and guess what - the problem still was there. I've done this procedure about more than 8 times, which various results. Sometimes happy, but most of the time frustration.

Now after 4 days of testing and frustration - I still don't have a solution. I even have the same problem in Edge and Chrome! But also various! Unfortunately I can't test it on another computer, or I have to ask a friend.

I've used all kind of cache-cleaners, but somewhere in the system FF doesn't accept changes in the admin. That also goes for adding a new user; that's only possible in Chrome....

I've decided to let this go, it's costing me too much time and frustration.

I really want to stick with Firefox, so for now I have to live with this issue.

Good news is that I installed a fresh FF version instead of update after update. But unfortunately at the end it doesn't solve my problem.

Sorry for the long message - I want to be as clear as possible as it's such a weird problem.

Thanks for reading!

Hello again,

A friend tipped me about this article: https://blog.mozilla.org/security/2021/08/10/firefox-91-introduces-enhanced-cookie-clearing/

This might be causing my problem as it's also deleting the LocalStorage. And that's what I don't want.

What can I do to disable this feature?

For enhanced cookie clearing, according to that article, you need to enable strict tracking protection. Have you done that? You can check on the Privacy & Security page of Settings/Options (whichever it's called on your system). Your History settings (on the same page) may also be interfering with cookies and site data retention.

Hi Terry, My settings are on "Standard" as the 'Strict' option gives me a warning that some sites might not work properly. After closing FF my history and cookies are all cleared. I've tried any setting and have been testing that, but it doesn't make any difference. I'm working on version 90 now, and that works well. So I won't install any updates for now (and certainly not beta versions). If FF has changed something with the LocalStorage which is giving these kind of issues, I think that needs to be fixed first.

When on wordpress.com what do you see here? Post a screenshot. Not sure what version of Win10 you are running, but you can also run a sandbox to test. https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-windows-sandbox-windows-10-may-2019-update

I'm not using Wordpress.com but Wordpress installed with Installatron. I've downgraded to FF90 and the problem has dissapeared. As shown in the screenshot; changes the settings at the red arrows are not saved. When I disable these 'favorites' in the top bar, and change settings which blocks to appear in the list, this is all not saved after I log out and in. So: - I change my settings in the Wordpresss admin (as I normally would do one time) - I log out of FF, clear all cache and cookies (which is automatically) - I log in (or the next day), log in my Wordpress site, and see that all the favorite buttons are back, and list with blocks are all back on. - It remembers the settings for a day/period I'm working on the site, without logging out. But I don't want to keep my laptop on for the whole night or days I'm not working on my site. Which shouldn't be necessary also.

RIght now I'm ignoring the messages for updates for FF91. Hopefully I can keep this for a while.

It's a fact, as they also admit, that FF changed something in 91 that causes the problems I have.
