Chosen solution

Firefox uses two locations for the Firefox profile folder. One location for your personal data (e.g. bookmarks) and another location for temporary files like the disk cache, so make sure to look in the correct location.

Location used for the main profile that keeps your personal data (Root Directory on about:profiles).

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>

"AppData" (XP: Application Data; Mac: ~/Library; Linux: ~/.mozilla) is a hidden folder.

Can you place the old drive in a external case? Can you put the old drive in the new computer?

Your wife's profile will will be located in the same place as yours. But in her computers' user account folder.

Cant put old hd in new pc because old drive has failed. That's why I bought the new pc. I tried looking for wife's profile in her account and couldn't find it. That's what I can't understand. Why was I able to get mine, but not hers?

I take it you are talking about sync. Sync was not meant as a backup. And some that did try getting their data back ended up clearing the sync data.

Did you reset the sync password, or change its e-mail? Doing so automatically removes all data from that account.

Did you previously used Sync and were both of you using the same Firefox Account or were you using different Firefox Account as using the latter is the only way to have you and your wife's personal data on the Sync server ?

We have separate firefox accts. Not sure I actually used sync to get my bookmarks back. Can't remember because it didn't seem too difficult.I have an external WD hd on the new pc from my previous system and just assumed the files came from that. When I tried to use it to get my wife's files I couldn't find them (or even mine).

Actually, I have just realized this problem and it's solution is above my pay grade and tossed in the towel. I told my wife to just recreate her bookmarks list from scratch since most of her old ones were probably obsolete anyway. She agreed (I think). Thanx to all for your help!!!!

Sorry we could not give better news. One thing. If you use some of the same bookmarks, you can import your list to her profile.
