Thunderbird supernova - summary file for inbox is too long or there is a problem with the disc

I can no longer open my inbox, I get a dialogue box saying that the summary file for inbox is too long or there is a problem with the disc. I can access my new emails on all mail but would prefer to be able to use the inbox. How can I resolve this?

Right click on the inbox name, pick properties

1. how many messages? 2. what is the size? 3. click repair

Restart Thunderbird. Any better?

No it did not solve the problem .Number of messages was unknown, disc size unknown, repair folder did not work, restarted Thunderbird got the same dialogue box "summary file too long". This has only happened since updating to supernova.
