I love Firefox, but when I am on Facebook, especially Farmville or one of the other applications I use on Facebook, Firefox slows down drastically. It is Firefox because I downloaded Google Chrome and it is lightning fast while playing Farmville etc. I've done everything I could think of, including uninstalling some of the larger Add-on's that I had downloaded using Firefox. Nothing has sped it up even a little bit. I don't want to change browsers, but I hate switching back and forth between Firefox and Chrome. Does anyone know if anything is being done about this problem?

Facebook keeps encouraging me to download their toolbar that can only be used on Firefox, I want to but sheesh, I can't handle the turtle speed of Firefox, I'm way to impatient for that.

Been a Firefox supporter for many years, hate to change now.

Hi Sara,

I'm sorry that you're having issues with Firefox and Farmville. My first suggestion is to ensure that your plugins are up to date. For instance, Farmville relies on the Flash plugin, and I've noticed that your version is slightly out of date. You can check your plugins on our Plugin Check page: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/

Also, some add-ons, like CoolIris, require a fair amount of system resources to operate. i love add-ons and wouldn't surf the web without them, but sometimes it's easier to disable all of them and just turn on the ones you use to determine if any of them are the culprit.

Another way to determine whether or not the problem is with Firefox or your installed add-ons is to create a fresh profile. You can create a new profile alongside your existing one that doesn't have any of your add-ons or bookmarks installed. Don't worry, it doesn't delete any of your existing data and switching between profiles is easy.

Here's an article on how to do this:

Your loyalty to Firefox is appreciated, and I hope this helps you with your problems- please reply if you'd like more help.

My wife had the same problem with her Windows XP laptop. I tried several things and I suspected the anti-virus was the culprit.

I then removed the anti-virus program, which was the latest free version of AVG. I then went to Facebook, and there were no further problems.

I then installed the free version of Avast anti-virus, and went to Facebook again, and there were no problems.

So, for this computer anyway, it was the AVG anti-virus program that was causing Facebook on Firefox to run very slowly.

I would recommend to whoever else is having this problem to temporarily disable your anti-virus program, and then try going to Facebook and see if that is what is causing the problem. Then, if it is, try another anti-virus program.
