To set a proxy server in Firefox 4 beta for Android:

  1. Type "about:config" in the address bar and press return.
  2. Type "proxy.http" into the search box on the about:config page.
  3. Tap on "network.proxy.http" and type the server name into the text box.
  4. Tap on "network.proxy.http_port" and type the port number into the number box.

Are you missing that "network.proxy.type" needs to be set to 1?

Also, if it's a SOCKS proxy, then the related options are in "network.proxy.socks*".

  5. Type "network.proxy.type" into the search box on the about:config page.
  6. Tap on "network.proxy.type" and input the number 1 or select the down button until you reach 1.
