OS= Win 7 Ultimate/64. The add-on bar appears as a blank toolbar all across the width of the browser, with a plus sign at the right end. Right clicking brings up a dialog box with the option to show-hide the add on bar. There is an arrow to right of this option, but nothing will present to click on/off from this dialog option.

Apparently if you have an addon that puts an icon on the addon bar, then the bar will keep re-appearing, even after you hide it. I was using a TinyURL generator addon, which adds an icon to the addon bar. Now that I've disabled this addon, the addon bar remains hidden after a restart of Firefox. Hope this helps.

how about changing FF to let users hide this even if there are add-ons?

isn't this what customization is about?
