There is no blank address space allowing me to type in a web site I wish to visit. How do I make this appear?

Are you in full screen mode toggle on/off with F11.

Or if window is maximized "Alt+Spacebar" > Restore, then if dialog remains "Esc"

Quick method: Ctrl+L

To redisplay the Navigation and/or other toolbars:

  1. "Alt+V" (View Menu)
  2. Toolbars (shortcut at this point is T)
  3. if Navigation bar does not have a checkmark, click on that bar

You can make Firefox 4.0.1 and Firefox 5.0 look like Firefox 3.6.17, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic *Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 look like 3.6)
