I am still using v3.6. Some time ago, I somehow stopped an update of v3.6.2. Now when I go to "update" my firefox, I see only an option to Resume downloading Firefox 3.6.2. And when I click on it, a window opens, but the download does not resume. So updating my software appears to be at an impasse.

I am afraid to start a new download, as I am afraid it will overwrite my settings.

Your assistance would be appreciated.

You might be able to remove the partial download from one of these folders or subfolders within these folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\updates

Any luck?

(Note: If you can't see the Local Settings folder, open Windows Explorer or My Computer, and use Tools > Folder Options > View to display hidden files and folders)

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

  • Uninstall your current Firefox version.
  • Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
