How to stop this - Search mode, clicked backspace in blank spot on page, removes letter in search bar used to go back 1 page.

FF used to allow this: you're on a page with search results, you go to a blank spot on that page and click backspace. You're taken back 1 page. Now, instead of this happening, when you click backspace, the last letter of the search term is removed. I cannot figure out how to cause the backspace to go back a page as it used to do.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Sounds like a good suggestion but, I can't open FF in safe mode. The option has disappeared.

In Firefox 4+ you can use one of these to start in Safe mode:

  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)
