Problem started when F4 installed. Firefox installs apparently with no problems, but when opened the centre of screen only shows the Google search bar, nothing else, bar does not accept any entry. Top bar, search bars, tabs, etc all work. Tried all hints and tips, uninstalled/reinstalled currently F8 installed still same problem.

The location bar (where you type the URL) is shown in the picture. Your current URL is about:home. You can change that to whatever site you want to go to.

You can also change your home page by following the instructions at https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page

It is not the top tab bars that are the problem, but that the centre section with Firefox logo as such doesn't complete loading and won't accept any typing. I'd already followed Options: Show my home page (option to "show my screen & tabs from last time doesn't work) Options: Restore to default makes no difference

Try to delete the chromeappsstore.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

You may need to reset browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone to the default on the about:config page and close and restart Firefox to restore a working search bar on the about:home page.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
  • Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
  • Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
  • Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)
