My Navigation toolbar is black with black lettering on a dark grey background making it difficult to read. Can I change the background colour to say light blue to improve the appearance?. A non tech pensioner would appreciate help

Sounds like you have a theme that is either not updated or is bad for you. If you are familiar with Styling code you can see what to update if you can read the code in and the from the description of the style there are additional lines to add to the style .

You may have installed a persona that isn't working properly.
You can uninstall your current Persona and revert to the Default theme (Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
