I've tried to update Firefox to version 9.o1, so I installed the update nad it said to restart the computer which I've done. Now though every time I try to finish the install (by clicking on the icon) a message comes up saying I need to restart the computer even though I have done this a lot.

I thought this could be an error so have tried to uninstall firefox & reinstall using a new download, but the same message comes up saying I need to restart.

It should not be necessary to reboot the computer to complete an update.
If a reboot is needed then that usually means that some (security) software is blocking files or you need elevated (UAC) permissions to make changes to files or registry keys.
Run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).
If that doesn't solve the problem then remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean reinstall.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
