How to support mms:// protocol in Firefox 7 to 9 using about:config?

Some radio stations stream with URLs beginning mms://... and with earlier versions of Firefox I have been able to add lines via about:config to cause Firefox to pass mms:// streams onto a media player. Alas, the solution that worked for Firefox 3.6.4 does not succeed with Firefox 7. (I tried adding a line to about:config but when I then go to Edit>Preferences>Applications I find mms never gets listed.)

How do I get Firefox 7 to support mms protocol?

The line I tried but without success is: network.protocol-handler.expose.mms false

EDIT: I haven't find a solution, but there is a good workaround that allows Firefox 7 to 9 (on linux, anyway) to play mms:// streams. Here's how. Copy the URL to a new tab and edit it changing the mms:// string to http:// and this seems to work! Cheers!
