i changed some passwords and can't get firefox to save the new ones. i removed the saved PW's, deleted cookies, and checked my "exceptions" box to make sure they weren't in there. still can't get it to ask to save the PW.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

The website may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving the name and password.
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save the name and password.

Thanks! I've verified i'm not in Private Browsing mode so that's not the problem. the websites i'm trying aren't new; i just changed PW's and can't get them to update on Firefox or Chrome. i DL'd "Autofill Forms 0.9.8.3" but that doesn't ask to save PW's either it seems. I was asked if i wanted to save my UN & PW to log onto the mozilla support forums though. I appreciate any other suggestions you might have.

This extension will make it possible to save the name and password on websites that refuse it for any reason, but that is no guarantee that Firefox will fill the name and password on a next visit.
