why iis it impossible to talk to any support person at firfox?
After switching fron IE8 to FF10 as my default browser, the desktop icon for google always opens in IE. I spent 1 1/2 hours mucking through your useless FAQs and support(?) forums. There is no such thing as a phone number or email address to contact anyone at FF.

Sorry, Mozilla doesn't offer telephone or email support for Firefox.
I'm sure the volunteers on this forum can help. I'll make a start.
Does this happen with any other shortcut icons on your desktop?
Is Firefox set as your default browser? Options>Advanced>System Defaults>Always check if Firefox is the default browser on startup>Check now.
You could try opening Firefox>then opening the particular Google site you want and creating a new Google shortcut on your desktop - drag the icon from the URL bar to your desktop.
Or set Google as your homepage. Options>General>Startup.
This support works best if you report back.
