Shortly after downloading a security update for Firefox, I started seeing strange encoding problems. Then Firefox started crashing all the time.

Crashed happened immediately after opening, even in Safe Mode. I downloaded the newest version of Firefox but that did not fix the problem. (Those early encoding problems I saw were bars on 7's, etc) Now I'm seeing encoding problems with Safari, which has now started to crash regularly on me. Need to finish a second thesis soon and this is very bad.

Followed your advice: used FontBook's option to "resolve duplicates" and cleared all my font caches with FontNuke, and everything's working fine now. Thank you so much!
