Synching from server to desktop
This just has to be a FAQ, but I can't find it after much searching on mozilla.org, including the Sync page. I used to sync between a home laptop and a work machine. I've left work and that machine is wiped. I had to get a new laptop as well, so now the only place my passwords and bookmarks are is on the Mozilla sync server. I want to sync bookmarks and passwords from the Sync server to my new laptop. How can I do this? The only options that FF allows me are to sync with another device.
I have: a sync account, which I can login to, but there are no useful management options the sync key on disk, though FF doesn't recognise it as a 'recovery key'
It would be such a time-consuming PITA to recreate all my passwords in particular (I've backed up the bookmarks to JSON). And yes, I guess it would have been better to sync my laptop before I left work, but I didn't. I've been going round the houses for over an hour trying to find the answer and I'm beginning to wish that I'd stuck with Xmarks :((

It's probably madness to answer your own questions, but the simple answer to this is to pair Firefox with SeaMonkey on the same machine. From an answer by Tylerdowner to a question I posed on sharing SeaMonkey and Firefox profiles:
There isn't a way for them to share profiles (that I know of) that wouldn't lead to possible data loss. However, with the newest versions of Seamonkey, you can use Firefox Sync to connect them. http://www.seamonkey-project.org/doc/sync
