Hello gogotutu

In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page. In the Search field, type browser.link.open_newwindow double-click and put as a value 1 , click OK to save it.

do the same with browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external , again put 1 as a value(it is -1 by default).

check also, always in about:config, the browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction and put as value 0 .

thank you

You can also check the Google search settings via the gear shaped icon on the Google results page.

(I see that you now also can disable autocomplete via the settings page: do not provide query predictions in the search box.
I hadn't noticed this yet)
