How do I go back to my default recently went to sites when I click new tab?

more options

You see, I kind of downloaded something that changed the squares that showed what I.. went to before. (Sometimes just recently but it saves itself there. I don't mind.)

It now shows Yahoo. And I do NOT want Yahoo showing when I click new tab. I want the sites back.

I would always love reading, so I get on websites that have stories and quizzes like Quotev!

Example: You click new tab, and it shows the websites you went on a lot. You can just click it to go to it. I also added the bookmarks tab but.. it just doesn't feel the same, ya get me?

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

The only problem is.. well.. since I can be kind of an idiot..

I don't even know what is causing it to appear like that instead of my lovely.. squares.

The image there shows Yahoo when I open a new tab. (I despise you so much, Yahoo...)

Do you have any extensions installed that could cause this?

Did you try Safe Mode?

You can use one of these to start Firefox in Safe Mode:

  • On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
  • On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Did you try the SearchReset extension?

What is the value of the browser.newtab.url pref on the about:config page?

  • You can open the about:config page via the location bar

Yes. I've tried it all... and it's sad that I cannot get rid of it.

Well, maybe I can. I dunno.

The images down there show what I mean if you don't... really know. Haha.. to make sure..?

That's the Yahoo web search thingy. I want it back to the squarely squares.

And also, all it said was about:newtab.

I cannot believe it.

I just.... randomly..... removed some random thing I found suspicious, as I never saw it before in the add-ons/extensions!

It was this freeze thing. Ah!~ It's back to normal! Thank you! Even though you didn't help much at all!
