Thunderbird just "spinning" no email downloaded no error message

My email hasn't updated since Jan 20. The spinning circle indicator just spins endlessly with no error messages and no information as to what it's trying to do. Any help?

most probably you need to disable email scanning in your anti virus program so you can download whatever mail is making it crash and burn instead of scan.

No Dice. That didn't work. I can send email but get an error message saying that Thunderbird encountered a problem while trying to save the message to the sent folder.

Don't know if that helps.
