when i go onto microsoft webpage the initial page is fine, whenever i click anything else on their site it says :-

The address wasn't understood

Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (ms-contact-support) isn't associated with any program or is not allowed in this context.

You might need to install other software to open this address.

thank you.

In your original post, your Firefox identified itself as running on Windows 10. I think if you have Windows 8 or later, you should have a store app.

Do you want to try Microsoft's forums?

When you hover your mouse over a link and look at the little status message in the lower left (sometimes lower right) of the Firefox window, does the address start with https:// or ms-contact-support:// ? The first one would be normal...

Have you noticed anything suspicious happening on your computer recently that could indicate a virus/malware infection?

Does Microsoft's site work normally in the Edge browser?

Could you the Microsoft site in Firefox's Safe Mode? In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

hi, thanks for reply, on every other website when i hover over a link it starts with https:// but on microsofts website it just starts with ms-windows-store.

i would'nt of thought it would be a virus or malware, its a brand new pc, 1 day old. although i should really get an anti virus.

the restart in to safe mode had no effect, still doing the same, (i should also state that ihave tried internet explorer which says the same thing and chrome, which doest do anythnig at all when i click the link)

Hi, please type Troubleshooter into the search bar in Win 10 and run the trouble shooter and see what it comes up with if any.

Oh, maybe since it's that new:

Is there a Windows Store app on your system that you've never started and set up? You might need to do that first before your browsers can associate these special protocols with the Windows Store app.

(That would be similar to when you browse to a web page that uses itunes:// URLs, you need iTunes set up first to open them.)

Hi, not sure, you may have to reboot for the fix to work.

Could try this to eliminate Windows issues :

  • Repair System Registry and Files

Find the Dos Prompt Right or Powershell Right Click and Run as Administrator then : Copy/Paste to Dos Window : DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth then hit Enter. Reboot when completed. Note : DISM goes up to Microsoft for new files.

Could you use the Windows 10 search box, just type store, and there should be an icon that looks like the Windows 4-squares design on a shopping bag. Does that show up?

You would have had to make a account using a hotmail/outlook address The store is in your start menu. As for Xbox it is in your Start Menu also and can Click that and then Next then it will want your windows email account.

I would think this is your issue as to why the URL does not work as you need to be logged into your MS Account.
