How do you turn off images?

more options

I already tried permissions.default.image and it doesn't do anything. There used to be an option under the content tab in setting for turning off images and javascript. Do I don't want to open the page and then turn off images for that domain. I want to turn off images, click on a link, read the page, and turn them back on. Why? Because I'm at work and I don't want any weird images showing up. And no I don't want to install an addon. So how can I do it? Or is Firefox only for people who barely know how to turn on a PC now.

Its useful for a tech site that may have shady ads, and how would you know if it does or not when you're just searching for an answer to a technical problem?

There are add-ons which make this easy, but if you prefer the hard way...

What values did you try for permissions.default.image ? As described in this article, 2 should work: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Permissions.default.image

Note that previously cached images may continue to display after making that change.

I don't know how you plan to determine that some of the images are weird or shady when you can't see them...

Anyway, to add an exception for a site you trust, you can use the Page Info dialog, Permissions panel. Either:

  • click the globe or padlock in the address bar > More Information
  • right-click the page > View Page Info

Click Permissions at the top, then scroll down to "Load Images", uncheck the "Use default" box and click Allow.
