many websites requiring functionality don't work
There are many mainstream websites that have stopped functioning in firefox that work perfectly fine when switching over to brave and enabling scripts
these are not obscure sites, they are sites for privacy protecting entities hence the lack of function on firefox is perplexing
how do we make these sites work in firefox again to save the switching to brave?

Since there is no listing of what sites are in questions no one can test or verify what your saying.
Please give an example (complete url) of such a website. What do you mean by "enabling scripts"?
If you use content blocking extensions to block JavaScript then you can't expect websites to work properly.
If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, DuckDuckGo PE, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.
- make sure your extensions and filters are updated to the latest version

Firefox shows a purple shield instead of a gray shield at the left end of the location/address bar in case Enhanced Tracking Protection is blocking content.
- click the shield icon for more detail and possibly disable the protection
You can check the Web Console for relevant-looking messages about blocked content.

You can try these steps in case of issues with webpages:
You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
- hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
- press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
- press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Settings).
"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:
- Settings -> Privacy & Security
Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"
"Clear the Cache":
- Settings -> Privacy & Security
Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> [X] Cached Web Content -> Clear
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/clear-cookies-and-site-data-firefox
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-clear-firefox-cache
Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or if userChrome.css/userContent.css is causing the problem.
- switch to the Default System theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
- do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window
Thanks everyone for replying - i thought it might be a generic issue rather than a specific problem
i'll see how it goes and if there are no further generic replies from people whom have had the same overall issue i will post an example
ok so here is an example
it goes blank as soon as search is clicked in mozilla
works fine in brave with shields up but scripts disabled
the answer is sort of obvious, however a clear 100% answer on the problem in firefox is appreciated

I use a lot of blockers, so my experience might not be typical, but...
I started here: https://www.realestate.com.au/
I entered mel and selected the first suggestion. Then clicked Search.
The site navigated Firefox to https://www.realestate.com.au/buy/in-melbourne+-+northern+region,+vic/list-1 and displayed the results.
Does that much work for you?
I then added some filters and the site updated the URL to: https://www.realestate.com.au/buy/with-3-bedrooms-in-melbourne+-+northern+region,+vic/list-1?numBaths=3&maxBeds=5&source=refinement
However, that wasn't a fully populated page. It is built by scripts, and the actual listings are returned from https://lexa.realestate.com.au/graphql (it's a POST request with a lot of parameters which I won't paste here).
If you haven't worked through cor-el's suggestions earlier in this thread, I suggest that as the next step.
Hi Jscher2000
thankyou for having a look :)
when clicking search in the following step, mine goes blank instead of returning results.
I entered mel and selected the first suggestion. Then clicked Search. --> displays blank white screen
this makes me think it's one of the add ons being funny... if it works for you it isn't a generic firefox problem...
