The delete icon has disappeared completely so now what do I do?
In trying to add a delete icon to the email inbox toolbar I right clicked on the toolbar, selected customize and dragged the delete icon to the toolbar. Not only did it not show up on the toolbar but it also disappeared from the customize box! Now what? The reason I was trying to add the delete button in the first place is that I'm attempting to figure out how to select and delete more than one message at a time. Unlike most email accounts there seems to be no selection box at the top (or any beside each email for that matter) that allows one to delete several or even all messages at once. So in your response I would appreciate it if you would address that issue as well. I'm getting frustrated and am about to break down and fork out over a hundred bucks for Outlook. Unfortunately I've been reading bad reviews on that as well. I need a very good email and calendar program because I'm setting up a small business. HELP!!!

Now what?
Please post a screenshot of both, your toolbar(s), and the 'Customize' window. http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem

This question comes up on a regular basis, and it is sad to see that many people seem to lack basic computer skills.
Have you ever deleted multiple files in Explorer at once? Thunderbird works the same way.
Select the first message you want to delete. Then press and hold Shift and select the last message to be deleted. This selects all messages in between the first and the last one. By holding down Ctrl and click on a message you can select or de-select it individually. Then press Del to delete all selected messages.
