When we start the internet or navigate to a new page, a new tab opens with the following alert: "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded." We "x" out of it, but a new tab, with the same alert appears. The problem occurs again when we try to navigate to another web page. A real nuisance. We've scanned the computer but found nothing but Adware cookies.

For a while now I have also been getting an alert message when I open various web pages "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded". At first the page would actually not open, but lately the page does open normally but the "alert" still pops up and I have to remove it before continuing. Any idea what and why this is? Thanks, Jacques

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes). See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions. You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Today I finally uninstalled FireFox and redownloaded the program and reinstalled it, added in my favorite addons like Web of Trust, etc. Seems to (fingers crossed) fixed the problem

I've found that since I installed the Add On Ad Block Plus, I've no longer had a problem with this issue.

Thanks for the info - can you please specify where one would find the Ad Block Plus? Thank you.
