Why is your browser such a piece of crap that keeps crashing, and when it does it won't let the crash report go out to you so you can fix the bloody thing?

That's just great, Mozilla! Put the onus on some poor unsuspecting volunteers to try and help us poor suckers for trying your lousy Firefox Browser. That way you don't have to see what many, many people are saying about their disillusionment with your browser. As soon as Firefox V.43 automatically installed itself on my computer, it crashed when I opened it up. I filled in the crash report dialog box and clicked on submit to send it to you, but it would not go out. Instead, I got another error message saying that there was a problem with my crash report and it couldn't go out. Well, WHOOP-DEE-DOO !!!, Mozilla; Firefox has crashed, so nothing is coming in or going out on Firefox. Brilliant, absolutely f...ing brilliant !!!

I've uninstalled Firefox v.43 (several times) but still end up with the same crash problem when I re-install it.

I'm able to write this message only because I took my computer to the repair nerd who again uninstalled v.43 but then installed v.37. This works (partly) but still has other problems that are Firefox related (not caused by other programs as you suggest). A very important question I've had for a log time is: "Why in the bloody hell is there a new upgrade of Firefox almost every month?" You're as bad as Microsoft, coming out with upgraded versions of Windows before fixing even half of the bugs in the current version. Have you ever heard the expression: "DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME" ?

I am not a computer expert, however, I do know a little that was self-taught. It goes to say; I don't have a degree in computers but I do have an Assoicates Degree in Accounting. One thing I did learn about computers though was that Firefox is one of the most, if not the best browser there is, as far as, being "stable". Internet explorer didn't have the capability to handle the technical needs required for software needed to do and summit homework in accounting classes. This I know to be a fact learned from school; from self-taught computer related knowledge, I believe your problem may be that you are using an outdated operating system. Older ones are known to have stabilty issues. Also, another possibilty is your file system may be corrupt. Open the command prompt program on your pc and type in chkdsk then press enter and let it run. If there's a problem with your file system this should fix it. You may need to upgrade your operating system. Finally be sure your PC is completely updated- with all your drivers updated as well. As I stated, I know it's not Firefox which is the problem, the issue lies elsewhere.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

Hey dalesgo. sorry to hear about the crashes. If you just came by to vent, that's fine, but if you want to try to get a more recent version of Firefox working on your system, it would be useful if you could:

Try running in Firefox's Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

In Safe Mode, Can you successfully submit your crash reports using the about:crashes page so you can share that data with us? Please check the support article "Firefox crashes - asking for support" for steps to get those submitted crash report IDs from the about:crashes page, and then post some of the recent ones here.


Firefox has a major update about every 6 weeks. Mozilla is on a mission to move the web forward, and concluded that the best way to get new features into the hands of users is to release on a regular schedule rather than waiting for an arbitrary collection of features to be finished before releasing. There are some annoying aspects to this, no doubt, but waiting six to twelve months for bugs to get fixed in the old days was not so good either.

I did some research on this issue. Other than the possible solutions in my original reply, as well as, possible solutions posted by jscer 2000 & FredMcD in their replies, be sure your antivirus software is up-to-date, then run it to remove any viruses, if there are any, on you PC. If present, viruses will cause crashes with Firefox. I hope these possible solutions will be helpful.

Your user agent shows that you run Firefox in compatibility mode for Windows 98 (NT 4.10).

Check that you do not run Firefox in compatibility mode. You can open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut via the right-click context menu and check the "Compatibility" tab. Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

You also appear to run an old an no longer supported Firefox 37 version.

Thank you cor-el. Your advice on not running Firefox in compatibility mode did the trick, as far as being able to access other websites by typing their web addresses in the address box. However, this problem existed in the Firefox v.37 which I am running now because neither I nor my computer repair nerd have been able to get Firefox v.43 to work. Since this problem appeared to be a "side-effect" of the faulty functioning of v.43, it remains to be seen what the final result will be if and when I reinstall v.43. Having uninstalled and re-installed v.43 more than half a dozen times, with absolutely negative results, I admit to being gun-shy about trying it again, with the expectation of a different result.....makes me think about the definition of insanity.
