I've been using Firefox on my M1 iMac for a year and all of a sudden when I leave the browser open for several hours or overnight, when I go back to it, it will not refresh or allow me to go to new sites. I am forced to quit the browser and open it again to get it to work. I'm am fully updated on my MacOS and have the latest Firefox version 114.0.2 (64-bit).

I tried uninstalling the browser and reinstalling it but the same issue returns. Is this a known issue?

I prefer to keep the browser open but will have to close it until a solution is found.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out to the Firefox Support Forum with your issue. I understand that you're experiencing a problem with Firefox on your M1 iMac, where it loses internet connection if left open for several hours or overnight.

Based on your description, it seems like you have already tried some troubleshooting steps, such as uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox. Since the issue persists, let's try a few more steps to see if we can resolve it:

Clear the cache and cookies: Open Firefox and go to the menu (three horizontal lines) > Options/Preferences > Privacy & Security. Scroll down to the "Cookies and Site Data" section and click on "Clear Data." Make sure both checkboxes are selected and click "Clear."

Disable extensions: Sometimes, extensions can cause conflicts or issues with browser functionality. Temporarily disable all your extensions and see if the problem persists. You can do this by going to the menu > Add-ons > Extensions and clicking on the toggle button next to each extension to disable them.

Create a new Firefox profile: A corrupt profile can also cause problems. Creating a new profile will start Firefox with default settings and no extensions. To create a new profile, follow the instructions in this support article: [link to Mozilla support article on creating a new profile].

After trying these steps, restart Firefox and test if the issue still occurs. If the problem is resolved, you can gradually enable your extensions again to identify if any specific extension was causing the problem.

If none of these steps help, it's possible that there might be a specific issue with the combination of Firefox and your M1 iMac. In that case, I recommend submitting a bug report to Mozilla. You can do this by visiting the Mozilla Bugzilla website and providing detailed information about your issue. This will help the developers investigate and address the problem.

I hope these suggestions are helpful in resolving your issue. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please let me know.

Best regards, Firefox Support Volunteer
